ABILENE, Texas – On paper Thursday and Saturday's American Southwest Conference matchups with Mississippi College and Louisiana College respectively looks like a mismatch. With both teams from the ASC East Division headed to Kimbrell Arena with undefeated records, McMurry University, the home team, will have its work cut out.

Thursday, McMurry takes on Mississippi College at 5:30 p.m. The Choctaws come to town with an 11-0 overall record, and MC has matched matched LC's 6-0 mark to tie atop the ASC East Division and holds a No. 23 national ranking by D3hoops.com.

McMurry's Saturday opponent, the Wildcats, are playing inspired basketball after the loss of head coach Janice Joseph-Richard to cancer in early December. LC has picked up where it left off in 2010 where the team was the ASC's representative in the national tournament after their first-ever ASC crown last season. Coming into the weekend, LC is 10-0 overall with a 6-0 league record and No. 19 national ranking by D3hoops.com.

“We are practicing with confidence this week,” McMurry head coach Veronica Snow said. “We've been expressing to the team that anyone is beatable, and none of these teams have played anyone we haven't beaten.”

McMurry held its own Dec. 20 in a tangle with No. 3-ranked Christopher Newport falling 67-59 after holding a lead late in the second half. Snow said that her team's 5-5 record is a result of missed opportunities.

“I think more than us feeling good about ourselves for playing CNU so well, we rather think of it as another missed opportunity,” Snow said. “We had a real opportunity to beat them, we had two opportunities earlier in the season to win close games against UT-Dallas and UT-Tyler, and we didn't do that; so I think that empty feeling those games left us will be motivation for us this week.”

Both games will be broadcast on KZQQ 1560 AM and fans can watch live video with an audio stream on mcmurrysports.com.
