ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University women took advantage of a 20 percent effort from the floor for Schreiner University on its way to a 63-31 victory in American Southwest Conference play Thursday night at Kimbrell Arena. Schreiner shot just 10 for 49 from the floor and committed 24 turnovers in the loss.
Senior
Erica Rawls led McMurry by scoring a season-high 13 points surpassing her previous high of six points against Christopher Newport on December 20. Rawls added three steals and four boards.
Jordan Stansell led McMurry with eight rebounds while
Anna Berthel recorded 12 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two blocks in the victory.
McMurry held Schreiner to just 10 points on their way to a 23-point halftime lead. Schreiner tied the game at 2 with 16:30 to play. After swapping turnovers Berthel gave McMurrry the lead for good at the 15:55 mark with a bucket 4-2.
Coming out of the locker room Schreiner scored two three-point buckets to take the McMurry lead down to 17 points. Schreiner shot just 25 percent from the floor in the second half but did 5 of 12 shots from beyond the 3-point arc.
Chelsea Sims who came off the bench recorded 11 points to lead Schreiner in the losing effort. Olivia Swarner added eight rebounds in the losing effort for Schreiner.
The loss moves Schreiner to 5-13 overall with a 3-11 ASC record. McMurry improves its record to 9-8 overall and 7-6 in conference play. McMurry returns to action Saturday when it plays host to Texas Lutheran at 1 p.m.
