ABILENE, Texas – In its final home meet of the season, McMurry University's swim teams out-dueled Austin College with the women taking a 122-89 victory and the men's team defeating the 'Roos 133-58 Saturday. Two men and three women won multiple events on the afternoon.
On the women's side,
Taylor Thomas won both the 100 and 200-yard freestyles,
Erin Johnson took the 50 and 100-yard butterfly races and Alex Altstaetter won the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley race.
On the men's side,
Aaron Vasquez won the 100-yard backstroke along with the 200-yard freestyle while
Robert Sussmeier took victories in both the 200-yard individual medley race and the 500-yard freestyle race.
In relay action, McMurry's Altstaetter,
Amber Perkins, Johnson and Thomas teamed up to defeat Austin College's tandem by 13.11 seconds in the 200-yard medley relay. In the men's race, McMurry won by 2.84 seconds as Sussmeier,
Cameron Sikes,
David Richards and
Nathan Worley swam a time of 1:44.16 to beat the 'Roos.
Also winning individual events were Worley in the 50-yard freestyle, Sikes in the 100-yard breaststroke and Richards in the 100-yard butterfly on the men's side.
Ainsly Johnson won the 1,000-yard freestyle and Perkins took the 500-yard freestyle on the women's side.
McMurry's last tuneup before the NCAA Division III Independents meet up at the Liberal Arts Conference Championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa Feb. 17-19 is Friday and Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo. on the campus of Colorado College.
