McMurry wins third-straight conference game

Bailey Marcum continued her strong season Saturday night with 17 kills in a win over Schreiner
KERRVILLE, Texas – McMurry University won its third-straight American Southwest Conference West Division match Saturday with a road win over Schreiner in four sets at Edington Gym. Bailey Marcum led McMurry with 17 kills while M.J. Vickers added 14 and McMurry took the match by a score of 25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21.

Schreiner battled to force a fourth set with a 25-22 win in the third game, however, McMurry was too much on each end of the floor for the Mountaineers and took the victory to move to 4-1 in league play.

McMurry's defense held Schreiner to just a .000 hitting percentage as the Mountaineers managed just 30 kills and 30 attacking errors. McMurry hit .142 for the match with Jasmine Qualls pacing the effort with 31 assists. Qualls added a double-double with 12 digs and Sarah Anding had 12 as well.

Vickers hit .273 with five errors on 33 attacks; the sophomore added nine digs. McMurry tallied eight blocks with Terah Brown added four solo efforts. Bennie Smith had six kills.

Schreiner's Caitlin Gayle led the Mountaineers in the losing effort with 12 kills and Schreiner dropped to 4-8 overall.

McMurry will play host to Howard Payne Tuesday night at 7 p.m. entering the contest with a 7-5 record.
