ALPINE, Texas – McMurry University dominated in a three-set victory over Sul Ross State Friday on the road to move to 3-1 in American Southwest Conference West Division play. McMurry won 25-7, 25-11, 25-16 with
M.J. Vickers leading the way with nine kills.
McMurry's .438 hitting percentage in the first game set the tone as the visitors had just one attack error and limited the Lobos to just seven points. From there, McMurry turned out a cumulative .323 hitting effort with just six attacking errors on the evening.
Vickers recorded nine kills on 16 attacks with no errors to hit .562 for the match.
Terah Brown added five kills and
Mandie Moore had four in the balanced attack.
Sul Ross struggled with a negative hitting percentage recording 25 attack errors and just 18 kills. McMurry recorded eight service aces with five from
Bailey Marcum. In the loss Stephanie Portillo had six kills and Brooke Bankston added five.
Sul Ross fell to 1-10 on the season while McMurry improved to 6-5 overall and remains second in the ASC West Division behind Hardin-Simmons.
McMurry continues its road trip to Kerrville Saturday with a Noon matchup against Schreiner.
