McMurry splits matches Saturday to go 3-1 at Austin College tourney

After a rough 0-3 start, McMurry rebounded with three victories over the weekend
SHERMAN, Texas - McMurry University split matches Saturday afternoon to close the Austin College Classic. McMurry took a win in three sets over Southern University at New Orleans and fell to the hosts, Austin College in four sets.

The 'Roos defeated McMurry 25-13, 26-28, 25-20, 25-23 to keep the visitors from sweeping through the tournament. Bailey Marcum had 15 kills and Bennie Smith added 13 in the losing effort. Jasmine Qualls had 28 assists, Sarah Anding had 32 digs and Terah Brown added eight blocks including three solo.

McMurry defeated Southern University at New Orleans 25-11, 25-13, 25-18 in the final match of the tournament. Smith and M.J. Vickers each had 10 kills in the sweep. Qualls had 21 assists and Anding added 18 digs.

McMurry went 3-1 on the weekend and moved to 3-4 overall. The team will begin American Southwest Conference play Tuesday on the road against Howard Payne in Brownwood at 7 p.m.
