Michael Falcone drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth inning to score
Jeff Jackson and McMurry took a 6-5 win over Louisiana College Saturday in the rubber match of the three-game series at Walt Driggers Field. McMurry trailed 5-1 until it scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score and Falcone's walk provided the winning score.
McMurry split with the Wildcats in Friday's doubleheader, but the win Saturday gave McMurry the series and helped the team improve to 6-8 overall. LC fell to 4-8 on the season.
In the bottom of the seventh, McMurry put the first two runners on base before
Derek Saltzgaber grounded into a double play advancing
Michael Dibiasi to third. Then after a walk drawn by Jackson, McMurry's
Brian Durst,
Matt Thompson and Falcone hit three-consecutive doubles to score four runs and tie the score at five.
Jackson drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the ninth, and Durst doubled to move Jackson to third. Then, Stuart Morgan intentionally walked Thompson before Falcone took a 3-1 pitch low to walk Jackson home.
Morgan picked up the loss throwing 1.1 innings, he allowed one hit, one run, walked four and struck out one.
Cory Davis, who was pulled in game two of McMurry's Friday doubleheader after giving up three runs before recording an out, responded in a big way to pick up the win in relief Saturday. Davis threw the final 2.1 innings, allowed just one hit and struck out one to pick up his first win of the season.
Durst and Falcone each drove in two runs while Durst had three hits on the day. Saltzgaber went 2 for 5 with an RBI and Thompson finished 2 for 4 with an RBI.
McMurry returns to the diamond Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when it plays host to Marietta College (Ohio) at Walt Driggers Field.
