LONGVIEW, Texas – McMurry overcame a 5-3 deficit, scored four runs in the last two innings and snapped a four-game losing streak with a 7-6 win over LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference crossover action.
Tyler Harvey hit the go-ahead two-run double in the top of the ninth inning and
Michael Dibiasi and
Chris Semchenko combined to shut down the Yellow Jackets in the bottom of the ninth to help pick up McMurry's second win of the season.
Trailing by two runs, McMurry knotted the score in the top of the eighth when
Deen Coleman hit a two-run double scoring Harvey and
Jake Mullin. Then, the Yellow Jackets' Josh Francis scored on a fielding error by McMurry to give LeTourneau a 6-5 lead. However, with two outs the freshman, Harvery knocked home
Michael Falcone for the tying run and
Colby Walding also came around to score for the final run of the game.
Dibiasi picked up the win in 2.2 innings of work; he recorded an out in the ninth, but surrendered two straight hits. Then, McMurry intentionally walked the bases loaded before head coach
John Byington brought in Semchenko. Semchenko picked up his first save of the season by getting a ground-ball out in which McMurry recorded a force out at home plate for out No. 2 and then Semchenko struck out Kaleb Savant to end the game.
Mullin homered in the game and drew four walks, Coleman drove in three runs and Falcone scored twice.
Cory Davis threw 5.2 innings to start the game and gave up five runs. Dibiasi allowed one run, which wasn't earned and Jay Lutz picked up the loss for LeTourneau in relief.
McMurry improved to 2-5 overall while LeTourneau fell to 4-3. The series will conclude Sunday with a doubleheader at Noon.
