McMurry swimmers continue hot start with win over Austin College

Both McMurry swim teams moved to 2-0 in dual meets this season with victories over Austin College Saturday

SHERMAN, Texas – The McMurry swim teams continued its hot start Saturday with dual-meet wins over Austin College. The women's team took a 133-58 win over the 'Roos while the men edged Austin College 107-106.

Both teams were able to record wins in each of the 200-yard medley, and 200-yard freestyle relays, which keyed victories for both teams. However, the women dominated individual events as well taking the top spots in 11 of the 12 events while the men's team won seven out of 12.

Several swimmers won multiple events for McMurry. On the women's side, Amber Perkins took victories in both the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyle races. Taylor Thomas won the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle races, Erin Johnson took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly races, and Alex Altstaetter took victories in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke races.

On the men's side, Robert Sussmeier won the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke and David Richards took wins in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard breaststroke. Nathan Worley took a win in the 50-yard freestyle but was also a member of both winning relays.

In relay action, on the women's side, Altstaetter, Perkins, Johnson and Thomas clocked a 1:58.82 in the 200-yard medley relay to beat Austin College by 7.74 seconds. Elise Hager, Alex Genzling, Audrey Laguna and Ainsly Johnson edged the 'Roos in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:55.63 while Austin College's group finished with a 1:55.77.

On the men's side, Worley, Cameron Sikes, Sussmeier and Richards teamed up in the 200-yard medley relay to win by 7.72 seconds with a time of 1:44.18. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Sean White, Sikes, Bradley Rowland and Worley took a win with a time of 1:33.72 bettering the 'Roos by 1.49 seconds.

McMurry returns to the pool Saturday and will play host to Trinity University from San Antonio.
