AUSTIN, Texas – Concordia Texas ended McMurry's eight-game winning streak Saturday afternoon as the Tornados held on late at the Concordia Fieldhouse to win a 73-70 American Southwest Conference West Division contest.

McMurry guard Dominique Brown, a senior from Fairfield, Texas, barely missed a 35-foot desperation 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded and the Tornados escaped with the upset.  The loss drops McMurry to 14-4 overall and 11-3 in ASC play, which ties them for first place in the West Division standings with cross-town rival Hardin-Simmons.  McMurry and HSU with clash for sole possession of first place at 5:30 p.m. Monday night at Kimbrell Arena.

In the first half, CTX jumped out to a 20-11 lead midway through the first half.  McMurry responded with an 8-0 run to make it a 20-19 game with 7:30 left until halftime.  From there, both teams remained within a few points of each other the remainder of the frame as the Tornados took a 34-32 lead into halftime.

The teams remained close to each other at the halfway point in the second half as CTX held a slight 52-51 lead with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.  But the Tornados bumped their lead back to nine points (64-55) with only five minutes to go.

McMurry fought back to trail by only one point (69-68) with 26 seconds remaining, but CTX's Kassandra Bills converted two free throws to push the Tornados lead back to three points with 18 seconds left.  McMurry center Anna Berthel, a sophomore from Anna, Texas, made a layup with four seconds remaining to cut McMurry's deficit back to one (71-70).  But those would be the last points for McMurry as Whitney Clancy responded with two free throws for CTX before Brown's missed 3-pointer at the buzzer.

McMurry had a rough day shooting the ball as they only converted 32 percent (24 of 74) of their shots from the floor, including seven percent (1 of 15) from behind the arc.  Meanwhile, McMurry's full-court pressure defense forced 32 Tornado turnovers.

Berthel lead McMurry's effort with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds.  Breana Anderson-Burton, a sophomore guard from Arlington, Texas, came off the bench to chip in 12 points for McMurry.

Whitney Clancy led CTX with a game-high 30 points.  The Tornados improve to 8-8 and 8-6 with the win.
