Brad Coleman was named as an assistant coach for the War Hawks prior to the 2012-13 season. Coleman serves as the War Hawks' pitching coach and also oversees the beautiful grooming of the turf at Walt Driggers Field..
Under Coleman's guidance, two McM hurlers have earned post-season honors - one signing a professional contract - and become a force to be reckoned with. During Coleman's tenure, the War Hawks have a 4.17 team ERA and average 6.1 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.
Prior to his time at McMurry, Coleman spent two years at Abilene Christian. During his time at ACU, Coleman assisted in all facets of the game, including recruiting, day-to-day field management, and he also served as the first base coach during games.
Prior to his time spent with ACU, Coleman received his bachelors and masters degrees from Hardin-Simmons University. He graduated with a BBS in Education in 2008 and Masters of Education in Sports and Recreational Management in May of 2010.
During his time as a player for the Cowboys, Coleman became a highly decorated player. In 2006 he was named a First-Team All-Region selection as well as a First-Team All-ASC honoree. He followed that by being named the Pre-Season Player Of The Year in 2007 and went on to First Team All-Conference and All-Region awards again. Along with that, he was also selected as a American Baseball Coaches Association Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner.
Coleman also made an impact on the Cowboys' all-time career marks during his time at HSU. He currently ranks fifth all-time in games played (170), hits (204), ninth in runs scored (114) and doubles (37), and tenth in RBIs (123).
“We are very pleased to have him join our staff,” said Byington of Coleman, “Brad is a strong coach in all facets of the job, and he already has experience at the Division II level, which is something that we believe will play a big factor in our success this season.”
Brad and his wife Lori were married in 2010 and have a son, Tucker, born on Feb. 20, 2014. The family resides in Abilene.
