Northover

Wayne Northover

Wayne Northover joined the McMurry Track & Field program in 2022 as a volunteer assistant coach. His areas of expertise includes sprints and jumps.

Prior to McMurry, Northover worked at the NCAA Division I level for the University of Virginia track & field program as a volunteer assistant coach from 2016 to 2021.

Northover, who competed collegiately at Wayland Baptist (Texas), represented Jamaica at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the triple jump. He won NAIA championships in the long jump and triple jump at the 2014 national meet, propelling him to be named Most Outstanding Male Performer.

As a coach, Northover has worked with high-level talent including accolades such as the 2017 ACC Champion in the triple jump, the 2018 Jamaican National Champion in the triple jump, the 2019 NCAA Indoor triple jump champion, the 2019 Southeast Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and the 2019 ACC Outdoor Field Performer of the Year. He also guided three state indoor championships in 2020 and five medals in VHSL Class 3 for indoor track and field.

In two seasons at McMurry, Northover has helped train DonTre Sinegal in the long and triple jump. Sinegal was McMurry's only athlete to appear at both the 2022 NCAA D3 Indoor and Outdoor National Championships and came back in the 2023 national meets to earn two outdoor All-American honors in the long and triple jumps.

Northover completed his bachelor's degree in sports management from Wayland Baptist in 2016, while earning his associate's degree in general studies at Cloud County Community College in 2014.Â
