Played two seasons at defensive end for head coach Mickey Owens at Monahans High School in Monahans. Recorded 95 tackles, eight sacks, four bass breakups, and two blocked punts as a senior on his way to all-state honors and first team all-district honors. Named academic all-state as a senior. As a junior, he recorded 85 tackles, four sacks, one blocked punt and had two fumble recoveries while earning first team all-district honors. Selected to play in the North Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game. Also lettered in track.
