Terray Green

McMurry University Head Football Coach Jordan Neal announced the addition of Terray Green to his staff as the inside linebackers coach in August 2021.

Coach Green joined the War Hawks' football program from fellow American Southwest Conference member East Texas Baptist, where he worked as a graduate assistant in the Spring 2021 season. He has also made stops as an assistant coach at Hocking College, Navarro College, Arkansas Baptist College and his alma mater, Bacone College.

In Green's first season with the War Hawks in 2021, McMurry saw sustained success from senior linebacker Josh Smith. Smith led the ASC in tackles with 88 total and 9.7 per game and earned first team all-conference honors. Green was also on staff when Smith became the all-time leader in career tackles for McM with 385, passing Chris Jospeh's record of 379 set in 1986.

Green completed his sixth year of coaching in 2021.

“We are very excited about the addition of another great young assistant coach in Terray Green," said Neal at the time of hire. "Coach Green will bring in great experience from our league to enhance our defense at inside linebacker play, and he will be a great recruiting asset to add to our program as well. Coach Green is a perfect fit for McMurry Football, he will connect well with our players and he will elevate our coaching staff.”

His coaching career began as the running backs coach at Bacone from 2014-17, where he helped guide one of the most productive backfields in all of NAIA football. Bacone produced three All-Americans under his watch, including Roderick Mackey with 900 total rushing yards, 1350 all-purpose yards and 12 touchdowns in 2015 and Johnny Thomas with 1,250 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns in 2016.

While at Arkansas Baptist College in 2018, Green helped coach the No. 5 defense at the NJCAA Division I level. The Buffaloes gave up a mere 85 yards rushing per game and 135 passing yards per game on the season while shutting out three opponents. Green worked directly with the outside linebackers and had two players (Ian Jackson and Kaleb Pearson) that finished in the top 15 for sacks.

In 2019, he joined the Navarro College coaching staff and coached two of the highest rated players in all of JUCO in Trey Bishop and Abraham Beauplan. Bishop led the nation in interception return yards with 194 and in defensive scores with three. He also ranked third in total interceptions with five. Beauplan led the nation in solo tackles with 80 and ranked second in total tackles with 117. Green also helped Navarro to a SEJCFC championship that season.

Green was a four-sport athlete at John Tyler High School where he lettered in football, basketball, track & field and powerlifting. He was a first-team all-conference defensive back and was the defensive MVP of 5A District 12 as a senior. He was also an East Texas all-region pick in basketball and was regional runner-up in the high jump and 4x100 relay. In powerlifting, he placed second in the state at the 2004 Texas State Powerlifting Meet.

Green began his collegiate playing career at Texas State University before finishing at Bacone College. At Bacone, he was a three-time all-conference and all-academic selection. He was selected to the 2013 NFL Regional Combine in Minneapolis, Minn. where he placed third among defensive linemen. He went on to play professionally for the Tulsa Defenders of the United Indoor Football League from 2013-2015 and ended his career in 2018 with the Arkansas Boltz of the Gridiron Developmental Football League.

Green graduated from Bacone College in 2013 with a degree in criminal justice.

He has one daughter, Amaris Faith Green, who lives with her mother and four siblings in Muskogee, Okla.
