Former War Hawks scholar-athlete Matt Newby re-joined the coaching staff in March 2023.

Since February 2016, Newby had coached West Brook, Brentwood Christian, and St. Michael’s Catholic high schools in Texas and Bolton and Oakdale high schools in Louisiana. Newby was also on McMurry’s staff as an assistant offensive line coach from August 2015 to February 2016. He started 23 straight games for the Maroon and White on the gridiron from 2012 to 2014.
