Kendall Roberson

Kendall Roberson came to the McMurry staff in 2009, currently serving as the Defensive Coordinator. Roberson also oversees the War Hawks’ defensive secondary.

Roberson brought NCAA Division I playing experience and nine years coaching collegiate secondaries to McMurry. Roberson was a standout defensive back at Mississippi State

In 2016, three of his defensive players - Jordan Washington, J.R. Arroyo and Decorian Johnson - were honored by both the American Southwest Conference and the NCCAA. Johnson was invited to rookie mini-camp by the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2011, Will Morris repeated as an All-American on the D3football.com honor roll. Teamamte D.J. Baiza, a cornerback, earned second team All-ASC accolades.

In 2010, Roberson guided the secondary to the No. 1-ranked pass defense in the American Southwest Conference and the defense ranked sixth in NCAA Division III in interceptions with 23. McMurry’s secondary boasted the first two all-Americans since the 2000 season. Morris and Dez Baker each earned national honors from D3football.com, and Morris was named preseason all-America for the 2010 season by both D3football.com and the Consensus Draft Services.

In his first season with McMurry in 2009, he helped coach the No. 2 pass defense in the American Southwest Conference as the team limited opponents to just 183.8 yards per game through the air. Roberson saw sophomore free safety Will Morris earn first-team all-conference honors and junior cornerback Gene Hudson was a second-team selection.

Roberson played four seasons in the Southeastern Conference for the Bulldogs. His senior season, he recorded 21 tackles, broke up 10 passes and intercepted two passes to cap his college career. He played in two bowls during his career including the Cotton Bowl, and the 2000 Independence Bowl where the Bulldogs beat Texas A&M 43-41.

All in all, Roberson played four seasons for head coach Jackie Sherrill at Mississippi State and enjoyed winning seasons in all four and a combined 33-15 record. One of the highlights of Roberson’s career came his sophomore year when his two interceptions helped MSU defeat No. 11-ranked Auburn 20-0 on Nov. 1, 1997.

Roberson also helped the Bulldogs knock off No. 9 Arkansas Nov. 11, 1998, and his senior year MSU beat No. 3 Florida and No. 20 Auburn in consecutive weeks during the 2000 season. As a freshman in 1996, Roberson was named to the all-SEC freshman team.

Following his playing career, he went on to coach the safeties at South Carolina State (NCAA I-AA) in 2002. From there, he was the defensive coordinator at Benedict College (NCAA II) for five seasons (2003-2007).

Then Dunn, who coached Roberson at MSU as the defensive coordinator, brought Roberson on the defensive staff at NMSU. There, Roberson led the Aggie secondary to the third-best passing defense in NCAA Division I

Roberson graduated from MSSU in 2000 with a degree in fitness management. He was born in Grenada, Miss. He and his wife, Beverly, live in Abilene and have three children: Dinisha, Diamante and Trakenya.
