David Metcalf joined the McMurry Football coaching staff in August of 2019, assisting with the safeties during his first season before becoming the defensive backs coach.
Prior to McMurry, Metcalf spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach at Texas Southern University, a Division I member in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). After spending the 2015 and 2016 seasons as a graduate assistant, Metcalf was promoted to assistant coach working with outside linebackers in 2017 and safeties in 2018. He was also responsible for recruiting at California junior colleges and parts of East Texas while at TSU.
“We are very excited to bring Coach Metcalf into our family," said McMurry head coach Jordan Neal. "Coach Metcalf is an excellent young coach and recruiter who will be a great mentor and leader for our players. His experience in junior college and at the division I level will bring another positive dynamic to our staff and program.”
Metcalf, a Compton, Calif. native, played two seasons of JUCO at Citrus College in California. He then moved on to Prairie View for the 2013 and 2014 seasons where he played safety.
Metcalf graduated from PVAMU with a degree in criminal justice and a minor in sociology. He earned his Master's in 2017 from Texas Southern University, majoring in educational administration.
