Mike Gonzales joined the McMurry Baseball coaching staff as a volunteer assistant during the 2021-2022 athletic season, following graduation from McMurry in 2021.
Gonzales was a five-year player for the program, enjoying two years of all-conference honors. He ranks among the top players all-time in career batting average (.340), games played (123), at-bats (420), runs scored (78), hits (143), doubles (29), total bases (193), walks (40)Â and slugging percentage (.459).
Gonzales aided McMurry in winning the 2022 American Southwest Conference Co-Coaching Staff of the Year award. McMurry enjoyed a historic 15-win improvement with a 24-18 record and a fourth place finish in the conference, despite being picked to finish 11th.Â

2021 (Fifth Year):
All-Conference Honorable Mention ... Named ASC Hitter of the Week on April 5 ... One of two players to start every game, roaming center field all season ... Led the team in batting average (.366), hits (48), at-bats (131), stolen bases (4-5) and on-base percentage (.421) ... Tied team-highs doubles (6) and runs (25) ... One of five players on the team to hit a triple ... Batted 12-for-21 in a five-game win streak en-route to ASC Hitter of the Week honors, hitting a triple, two homers, scoring 10 runs and driving home six more ... He had four multi-hit games in the five-game stretch while scoring at least once in all five games ... Went 2-for-2 against Schreiner with a two-RBI single, a solo homer and a pair of walks in a 12-11 win ... Won the War Hawk of the Year Award for McMurry Baseball and was one of five scholar-athletes up for the Bill Libby Award (Top Overall Male Athlete). Â
2020 (Senior):
Started the first two games of the season before sustaining a season-ending injury ... Had one hit and one RBI for the series against Schreiner ... Stole one base ... Earned a spot on the ASC Preseason Players to Watch list.Â
2019 (Junior):
Started in all 38 games ... Third team All-American Southwest Conference outfielder ... Had 55 hits to rank 10th in the ASC ... Batted a team-best .372 average (55-148) ... Led the team in doubles (10), triples (2), RBI (28), total bases (72), on-base percentage (.448) and runs scored (25) ... Totaled only one error all season for a .988 fielding percentage.
2018 (Sophomore):
Appeared in 32 games, starting 30 ... Batted .311 (37-119) ... A team-leading 13 doubles ... One triple ... One home run ... 18 RBI ... Drew 16 walks ... 27 runs scored.
2017 (Freshman):
Appeared in 11 games, making 5 starts ... 30.2 IP ... 8.22 ERA ... 0-3 record ... Also hit .143 in 14 at-bats.  Â
