Boardman Adams

Boardman Adams begins his seventh season in 2023-24 as an assistant coach. Prior to joining the War Hawks, Adams was a student assistant coach at his alma mater, Howard Payne University, for the 2016-17 season.

In his fifth season on staff in 2022, Adams helped McMurry win the 2022 American Southwest Conference Co-Coaching Staff of the Year award. McMurry enjoyed a historic 15-win improvement with a 24-18 record and a fourth place finish in the conference, despite being picked to finish 11th. 
 
Adams brings a diverse baseball background to the McM program. In addition to his student coaching and playing career at HPU, Adams can also claim experience as a head coach and general manager. Adams has served as GM for the Forestbrook Mallards and the Carolina Forest Crawdads summer league teams. He was also head coach of the Conway Cadets and Rawlings All-Star Prospects (15U) summer teams.

Adams’ team won the Beach Collegiate Baseball League Coastal Division title in 2016 and finished as the BCBL championship runner-up. In 2017, Adams’ team won the BCBL crown and he was tabbed as the League’s “Coach of the Year.”  He was twice named to the BCBL All-Star coaching staff (2016 and 2017).

In the summer of 2019, Adams worked as the pitching coach for the St. Cloud Rox in the Northwoods League and helped develop a number of talented draft prospects and NCAA Division I and Division II players, most notable Alex Carillo and Pedro Garcia, who have signed professional contracts with the Texas Rangers and Cincinnati Reds organizations, respectively.

For the 2020 summer season, Adams worked in the Texas Collegiate League as an assistant coach with the Brazos Valley Bombers. The Bombers won the TCL Championship with Adams serving as the first base coach. He primarily worked with outfielders while assisting the pitching staff. In addidtion to the team championship, Adams worked with the 2020 TCL Batting Title Champ, Kelby Weyler, a shortstop out of Lamar University. The McMurry assistant coach also worked with prospects from Texas A&M, Texas State, TCU and Dallas Baptist while with the Bombers.

In 2021, Adams served as the recruiting coordinator for the Cortland Crush of the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL), a summer collegiate team in Cortland, New York. Also in 2021, Adams began serving as the Recruiting Director for the Texas Angels.
 
Additionally, Adams has served two years as a middle school youth leader for his home church – Gateway Church – in Southlake, Texas.
 
Adams earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a minor in kinesiology from Howard Payne in 2017.  He was a resident assistant and was involved in Greek life activities at HPU, as well.

After graduation, Adams pursued a master's degree in kinesiology from Hardin-Simmons University, which he completed in May of 2019. 

He is married to Dezeray Adams. The couple have one child, James Paul Adams, born in January 2021.
