2010 Season (Sophomore):
Filled in the last two games for injured quarterbacks Jake Mullin and Stephen Warren. Won his only start against Mississippi College Nov. 13 passing for four touchdowns and 279 yards in a 28-17 win. Finished the season 38 of 54 for 471 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. Threw two touchdown passes in the second half of a loss to Louisiana College. Punted four times for an average of 43.2 yards.
2009 Season (Redshirt Freshman):
Backed up all-conference quarterback Jake Mullin. Played in six games and started one replacing the ill Mullin Nov. 14 against Louisiana College. Completed 36 of 63 passes for 285 yards. Tossed one touchdown and six interceptions on the season. Threw for 216 yards in his start against Louisiana College. Punted twice for 72 yards.
2008 Season (Medical Redshirt):
Started the season on JV but suffered an injury and was rewarded a medical redshirt.
High School:
Played three seasons for head coach and father Steve Gunter at Sudan High School. Played quarterback, free safety and was the team’s kicker. As a senior, he passed for 29 touchdowns and 2,150 yards. He rushed for 510 yards and five touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 75 tackles and had five interceptions. Named all-region at quarterback, free safety and punter. Was an all-district selection in 2005. Nominated for the Built Ford Tough Player of the Year in 2007. Also lettered in basketball.
Personal:
2008 graduate of Sudan High School in Sudan. Cousin, Sunny Cumbie, played quarterback at Texas Tech and is the head coach of the San Antonio Stampede Express in the Indoor Professional League. Born 03 March 1990.
