Will start at linebacker in his final season with the team after a solid junior campaign in 2010.
2010 Season (Junior):
Recorded 57 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and forced two fumbles in his second season on varsity. Recorded a season-high 16 tackles, had 3.5 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and an additional quarterback hurry to earn ASC Defensive Player of the Week honors after McMurry’s 28-17 road win over Mississippi College. Had nine tackles in a losses to nationally-ranked Hardin-Simmons and Mary Hardin-Baylor. Forced fumbles against Howard Payne and Texas Lutheran, and recovered a fumble against Hardin-Simmons. Tallied five quarterback hurries on the season and broke up one pass.
2009 Season (Sophomore)
Provided teammate Andrew Wallace with some much-needed help from the linebacker’s position in 2009. Hernandez made the jump from JV to varsity in 2009 and responded with 62 tackles, eight tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble in his sophomore campaign. He recorded a season-high 11 tackles in the season opener Sept. 5 against nationally-ranked Trinity and followed that performance with 10 tackles Sept. 12 against Austin College. Had a season-high two tackles for a loss to accompany nine tackles in a road win over Howard Payne Oct. 10.
2008 Season (Freshman):
Played on McMurry’s JV team.
High School:
Played two seasons at linebacker for head coach Mark Wiatrek at Foster High School in Rosenberg. Recorded 95 tackles as a senior with two forced fumbles and 10 tackles for a loss. Also recorded and interception and two sacks on his way to second-team all-district honors. As a junior, he head 70 tackles, a forced fumble, two tackles for a loss and an interception. Foster only won two games in Hernandez’s senior year, but he helped his team defeat El Campo High School who was undefeated at the time during Foster’s Homecoming game by making two goal-line tackles at the end of the game.

2008 graduate of Foster High School in Rosenberg. Played against Jacquizz Rodgers (RB, Oregon State) in high school. Majoring in education. Born 21 Feb. 1990.
