MARSHALL, Texas - McMurry dropped a straight-set match to Christopher Newport on Friday at the ETBU Tournament.
The 12-25, 23-25, 10-25 loss moved the War Hawks to 2-5 on the season.
Madi Polasek and
Hanna Rubis paced the War Hawks with seven kills apiece.
Grace Fortune led with 13 assists, while
Lexi Nichols anchored the back row with 12 digs.
Jalie Miller and
Haley McCallick each added 11 digs defensively.
The match got off to a tough start for McMurry, dropping the first set 25-12. However, the War Hawks fought back in a tightly contested second set, trading points down to the wire. A kill from Polasek kept the War Hawks right in it late at 21-20, and a Christopher Newport service error eventually tied the set at 23-23, but CNU managed to score the final two points to steal the set 25-23.
Christopher Newport pulled away in the final set, limiting the War Hawks to just three kills while taking the set 25-10 to seal the match.
Volleyball returns to the Saturday for a double dip against LeTourneau at 11:30 a.m., followed by Hendrix College at 4:30 p.m. in their final matches at the ETBU Tournament.
