McMurry Men Drop Road Decision at St. Thomas, 3-1

HOUSTON, Texas – McMurry Men's Soccer dropped a hard-fought road contest on Thursday evening, falling 3-1 to the University of St. Thomas at SaberCats Stadium.

The Celts struck first in the 21st minute, slipping a shot into the net to take a 1-0 advantage into the halftime intermission.

St. Thomas pushed its lead to 2-0 early in the second half, capitalizing on an unassisted opportunity in the 48th minute.

McMurry quickly answered back with an aggressive attack. In the 55th minute, forward Justyn Judie broke through the Celts' back line unassisted, burying his second goal of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1 and pull the War Hawks right back into contention.

The War Hawks continued to push forward for an equalizer, but St. Thomas answered with an insurance strike in the 76th minute to re-establish a two-goal cushion and hold on for the 3-1 result.

Judie paced the McMurry attack with three shots, placing two on frame, including his 55th-minute tally. Alexis Aguinaga and Carlos Guerra also registered shots for the War Hawks.

Goalkeeper Jose Sanchez worked the full 90 minutes in net, recording three saves on six shots on target faced. St. Thomas held a 9-5 advantage in total shots. Still, McMurry displayed discipline throughout a physical match, conceding only five fouls while drawing 15 against the Celts, who were booked for seven yellow cards on the night.

The War Hawks head to Round Rock next to square off against Concordia on Saturday, September 12th at 5:00 p.m. at the Round Rock Multi-Purpose Complex.
