GEORGETOWN, Texas -- McMurry Men's Soccer opened its 2026 season on the road, falling 3-0 to Southwestern University on Tuesday at Southwestern Varsity Fields.
Southwestern took an early 2-0 advantage after converting back-to-back penalty kicks in the third minute. The Pirates extended their lead to 3-0 with an assisted goal in the 22nd minute.
Enrique Cabello anchored the McMurry defense in goal for the second half, shutting out Southwestern during his time on the pitch and recording a team-high four saves.
Defenders
Moise Munezero,
Alexis Aguinaga,
Cristian Canas, and
Carlos Guerra provided a constant presence on the War Hawks' backline, with all four playing the full 90 minutes.
Southwestern out-shot its guest 19-7 and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Starting goalkeeper
Jose Sanchez recorded two saves for McMurry.
Audrick Moreno and
Samweli Batanndji led the War Hawks' offensive efforts with one shot on goal each.

Jovani Burnett each added one shot for McMurry.
The War Hawks return to action Friday, September 4th, hosting Lyon College at Wilford Moore Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
