War Hawks Split Regular Season Finale at Lyon College

BATESVILLE, AR - The McMurry War Hawks wrapped up their regular season with a road non-conference doubleheader against Lyon College on April 25th in Batesville. The teams split the doubleheader, with Lyon taking game one 3-1 and McMurry dominating game two with a 17-5 victory.

GAME ONE: Lyon College 3, McMurry 1
In the first game, the War Hawks struck early in the top of the first inning. Tatum Black started things off with a bunt single, stole second base, and eventually scored when Blake Risko singled to shortstop.

However, that would be the only run McMurry managed as Lyon's pitching staff kept the bats quiet for the rest of the game.

Hunter Poe had a strong start on the mound for McMurry, pitching two scoreless innings and striking out four batters.

Lyon tied the game in the fourth inning on a groundout and added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI triple to secure the 3-1 win.

GAME TWO: McMurry 17, Lyon College 5
Game two was a completely different story as McMurry's offense exploded for 17 runs on 14 hits.

The War Hawks jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Collin Bruning hit an RBI double, Dru Ohmstede followed with an RBI single, and Scout Smith launched a two-run homer to cap off the early rally.

Lyon responded with a run in the bottom of the first and two more in the fourth to cut the McMurry lead to 4-3.

In the top of the sixth, Kaden Buske extended the lead with a two-run single. Lyon answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, keeping the game close at 6-5.

McMurry pulled away in the seventh when Mason Schultz and Diego Flores hit back-to-back RBI singles and doubles.

The War Hawks added three more runs in the eighth, highlighted by an RBI single from Dru Ohmstede and a sacrifice fly from Scout Smith.

The offensive onslaught concluded in the ninth inning with a massive six-run frame, punctuated by a bases-clearing three-run triple from Collin Bruning.
