Poe Shines on the Mound as Offense Erupts to Take Down Schreiner

ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks faced off against Schreiner on April 17, 2026, at Walt Driggers Field. The final score was 10-2 in favor of McMurry.

After three scoreless innings, Schreiner scored the first runs of the game in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run homer to give the Mountaineers an early 2-0 lead.

McMurry got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kaden Buske hit a solo home run, narrowing the deficit to 2-1.

The War Hawks broke the game wide open with a massive nine-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning. Collin Bruning tied the game with an RBI double to score Beckham Paul. Shortly after, Scout Smith hit a single and advanced on an error, bringing in Mason Schultz, Blake Risko, and Bruning to make it 5-2. Kia'i Sylvester followed with an RBI single to score Smith, extending the lead to 6-2.

McMurry continued to pile on the runs in the seventh. Sylvester scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-2. Bruning then hit a single to bring in Buske and Noah Solis, pushing the lead to 9-2. Finally, Risko hit a sacrifice fly to score Paul, capping the inning at 10-2.

In the ninth, Adam Trevino came in to relieve Hunter Poe and pitched a perfect inning, striking out two batters to secure the 10-2 victory for McMurry.

Top Performers
Hunter Poe: Earned the win after pitching 8.0 strong innings, allowing just two hits and two runs while striking out eight batters.

Collin Bruning: Went 2-for-4 at the plate, hitting a double and driving in two runs to fuel the massive seventh-inning rally.

Kaden Buske: Finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a crucial solo home run that put McMurry on the board in the fifth inning.

Scout Smith: Sparked the offense during the seventh inning, recording a two-RBI single and scoring two runs overall.

McMurry wraps up their series against the Mountaineers on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. at Walt Driggers Field, with senior recognitions between games.
