McMurry Softball Falls Short in Road Doubleheader at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, LA - It was a tough day on the diamond for our McMurry War Hawks in their doubleheader against Centenary College on April 10th in Shreveport. Centenary took both games, with scores of 9-6 in game one and a heartbreaking 6-5 extra-innings loss in game two.

Game One: Centenary College 9, McMurry 6
In the first game, Centenary took an early lead, plating four runs in the bottom of the second inning.

The War Hawks battled back in the top of the fourth. Marissa Cardenas sparked the offense with an RBI single to score Angelina Kulbeth. Samantha Gonzalez followed up with an RBI single of her own, bringing home Reaghan Staehely and Cardenas on an error to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Centenary's offense surged again in the sixth, adding five runs to extend their lead to 9-3.

Showing true resilience, McMurry rallied in the seventh. Elaina Herrera ripped an RBI single to score Kami Owen , and Staehely added another RBI single to bring home Taylor McCurdy , but the comeback ultimately fell short at 9-6.

Nyema Muhammad started in the circle, pitching 5.1 innings for the War Hawks.

Game Two: Centenary 6, McMurry 5 (8 innings)
Game two saw the War Hawks' offense come alive early. In the top of the third, McMurry exploded for four runs. Reaghan Staehely delivered a clutch two-RBI single, scoring Kaelyn Rodriguez and Taylor McCurdy. Sophia Steele then reached on a fielder's choice that brought home Angelina Kulbeth and Staehely, giving the War Hawks a 4-0 advantage.

McMurry added to their lead in the fourth when Taylor McCurdy's fielder's choice scored Kami Owen.

Emmalee Gebhart pitched a strong game, holding Centenary to just one run through the first five innings.

However, a late rally by Centenary, aided by McMurry errors, allowed them to score three unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 5-5.
