War Hawks Split Doubleheader Against Ozarks at Edwards Field

ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks split their doubleheader against the University of the Ozarks on March 6 at Edwards Field, dropping the first game 7-3 before rebounding with a 4-2 victory.

Game 1: Ozarks 7, McMurry 3
In game one, Ozarks took an early lead with three runs in the first and three more in the third. McMurry replied in the third as Elizabeth Yaws stole home following Taylor McCurdy's steal of second. The War Hawks added a run in the fourth when Reaghan Staehely scored on a passed ball. In the fifth, Angelina Kulbeth grounded out to score McCurdy, making it 6-3. Ozarks tacked on a final run in the sixth for the 7-3 win. Sophia Garza pitched 2.1 innings for McMurry, and Nyema Muhammad provided 4.2 innings of relief, allowing one run.

Game 2: McMurry 4, Ozarks 2
Game two featured stronger War Hawks pitching, keeping the game scoreless through two innings. In the third, Reaghan Staehely's two-run double drove in Angelina Kulbeth and Kaelyn Rodriguez.

After an Ozarks solo home run in the fourth, the War Hawks answered in their half. Samantha Gonzalez singled in Elizabeth Yaws, and Taylor McCurdy added an RBI groundout to score Brooklyn Nehring, extending the lead to 4-1. Ozarks scored once more in the fifth, but McMurry held on for a 4-2 win. Rexie Sanders pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs, and Thalia Reyes closed with 1.2 scoreless innings.

Top Performers

  • Kaelyn Rodriguez: Four hits in the doubleheader, including a double in game one.
  • Reaghan Staehely: Drove in two runs with a double in game two and scored in game one.
  • Rexie Sanders: Led the staff in game two, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing two earned runs for the win.
  • Angelina Kulbeth: Three hits on the day, a run in game two, and an RBI in game one.

The War Hawks return to Edwards Field tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. to finish their series against the University of the Ozarks.
