ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks dropped the final game of their series against the University of the Ozarks on a chilly Saturday morning, 7-1.
The War Hawks were held scoreless in the early innings. In the bottom of the first,
Angelina Kulbeth,
Samantha Gonzalez, and
Reaghan Staehely were retired in order. The War Hawks drew two walks in the second inning from
Elaina Herrera and
Kaelyn Rodriguez, but were unable to capitalize.
The Ozarks scored the first runs of the game in the top of the third inning, taking a 2-0 lead. McMurry responded in the bottom half with a single from
Angelina Kulbeth, but she was left stranded on base.
The Ozarks extended their lead in the fourth inning, scoring three more runs to make it 5-0. In the bottom of the fourth,
Sophia Steele hit a single for McMurry.
Alyssa Hernandez pinch ran for Steele but was out on a double play hit by
Elaina Herrera to end the inning.
In the fifth inning, the Ozarks added another run, pushing the score to 6-0.
Kiera Ramirez hit a single for the War Hawks in the bottom of the inning.
Kami Owen reached on a fielder's choice, but McMurry could not bring a run home.
McMurry got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Angelina Kulbeth reached first on an error.
Samantha Gonzalez executed a sacrifice bunt to advance Kulbeth to second.
Reaghan Staehely followed up with a double to score Kulbeth, narrowing the deficit to 6-1.
The Ozarks responded in the top of the seventh with one more run, increasing their lead to 7-1. In McMurry's final at-bat,
Kami Owen hit a single and stole second base. However, the War Hawks were unable to close the gap further.

McMurry will next open a series against Concordia on Thursday, March 12, with a double header set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
