CONWAY, AR - It was a highly successful day on the diamond for our McMurry War Hawks in their doubleheader against Hendrix on March 21st in Conway. The War Hawks took both games, securing a 5-1 victory in game one and a commanding 10-1 win in game two.
Game 1: McMurry 5, Hendrix College 1
In the first game, McMurry got off to a fast start in the top of the first inning when
Reaghan Staehely singled up the middle, bringing in
Taylor McCurdy and
Kaelyn Rodriguez for an early 2-0 lead.
Hendrix responded with one run in the bottom of the frame.
The War Hawks extended their lead in the third inning when
Angelina Kulbeth scored on a passed ball. Later in the same inning,
Shaylee Rodmaker crossed the plate on a throwing error to push the advantage to 4-1.
In the top of the sixth,
Alyssa Hernandez stole home to add an insurance run, securing the 5-1 victory for McMurry.
Sophia Garza pitched all seven innings for the War Hawks, allowing just one run and scattering nine hits.
Game 2: McMurry 10, Hendrix College 1
The War Hawks' bats exploded in game two, driving in ten runs on eleven hits. In the first inning,
Reaghan Staehely singled to drive in
Taylor McCurdy.
Sophia Steele then launched a three-run home run to left field, bringing home
Reaghan Staehely and
Angelina Kulbeth for a 4-0 advantage.
The offense kept rolling in the second inning when
Kaelyn Rodriguez hit an RBI double to score
Brooklyn Nehring.
Angelina Kulbeth followed immediately with an RBI single, driving in
Kaelyn Rodriguez and extending the lead to 6-0.
McMurry capped off their scoring surge with four more runs in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI single from
Taylor McCurdy and a two-run single from
Angelina Kulbeth. Hendrix managed a single run in the bottom of the third.
Nyema Muhammad earned the win in the circle, tossing five innings and striking out four batters.
Top Performers:
Angelina Kulbeth: Combined for four hits, three RBIs, and scored two runs across the doubleheader.
Taylor McCurdy: Recorded three hits, drove in two runs, and crossed the plate three times over the two games.
Sophia Steele: Blasted a three-run home run in the first inning of game two to jumpstart the offense.
Nyema Muhammad: Earned the pitching win in game two, allowing only one run and striking out four across five innings of work.
