ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks faced off against Hardin-Simmons on March 17 at Lou Morton Ellis Field. The final score was 5-2 in favor of Hardin-Simmons.
McMurry scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning.
Reaghan Staehely singled up the middle, and
Sophia Steele drew a walk.
Marissa Cardenas then singled down the right-field line, bringing
Reaghan Staehely home to take an early 1-0 lead.
The War Hawks added another run in the top of the second inning.
Brooklyn Nehring reached first base on an error, and
Alyssa Hernandez advanced her with a sacrifice bunt.
Taylor McCurdy subsequently reached first on a throwing error, allowing
Brooklyn Nehring to score and increase the lead to 2-0.
Hardin-Simmons responded in the bottom of the fifth inning, pushing two runs across to tie the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, Hardin-Simmons added three more runs, which included a home run and a steal of home, to take a 5-2 lead. McMurry was unable to close the gap in the final frame.
Top Performers
Reaghan Staehely: Recorded two hits in four at-bats and scored one run.
Marissa Cardenas: Tallied one hit in three at-bats and secured McMurry's sole RBI of the game.
Rexie Sanders: Threw five innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out three batters.
Taylor McCurdy: Registered one hit, reached base on an error that drove in a run, and recorded a stolen base.

McMurry will travel to Conway, Arkansas, to begin a conference series against Hendrix College this Friday, March 20, at 6:00 p.m.
