Pitching Duel Ends in Dramatic War Hawk Victory

ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks faced off against Concordia (Texas) on March 13, 2026, at Edwards Field. The final score was 2-1 in favor of McMurry after a dramatic late-game rally.

Both teams remained scoreless through the first six innings, locked in a tight pitching duel. McMurry created an early opportunity in the bottom of the first. Kaelyn Rodriguez hit a single, and Reaghan Staehely drew a walk, but both runners were left on base.

In the bottom of the second, Brooklyn Nehring and Taylor McCurdy both walked. The War Hawks were unable to convert these trips to the plate into runs.

Staehely contributed another single in the bottom of the third. Later, in the sixth, Staehely recorded her second single. Kami Owen entered as a pinch runner, but the game stayed tied at 0-0 heading into the final frame.

Concordia took the first lead in the top of the seventh. Karlee Mathis reached first base on a shortstop error, allowing Molly Olivarez to score an unearned run for a 1-0 advantage.

The War Hawks responded with a clutch offensive rally in the bottom of the seventh. Taylor McCurdy singled to get the momentum going. Angelina Kulbeth followed with a single, advancing McCurdy to second base. Gianna Ricarte then drew a walk, loading the bases for McMurry. Reaghan Staehely stepped up in the crucial moment and hit a two-run double. Kulbeth and McCurdy came home to seal the 2-1 walk-off victory for the War Hawks.
