Poe Stifles Celts in Complete Game, 13 Strikeout Performance

ABILENE, TX - The McMurry War Hawks claimed a 2-1 victory over the University of St. Thomas on February 27, 2026, at Walt Driggers Field. With the win, McMurry improves their overall record to 4-9 and their conference record to 2-5.

The War Hawks established their lead early in the bottom of the first inning, displaying patience at the plate. After consecutive walks loaded the bases for Collin Bruning, Scout Smith, and Dru Ohmstede, Kia'i Sylvester drew a walk to drive in Bruning for the game's opening run. Beckham Paul followed with another walk, allowing Smith to cross the plate and extending the McMurry lead to 2-0.

St. Thomas responded in the top of the second inning. A double to right-center field drove in a run, cutting the War Hawk lead to 2-1. However, this would be the only offense the visitors could muster.

The remainder of the game evolved into a defensive pitcher's duel. McMurry starting pitcher Hunter Poe delivered a dominant performance on the mound, shutting down the St. Thomas lineup for the rest of the contest. Poe pitched a complete game striking out 13 batters while allowing just one run on five hits, and one walk to secure the win for the War Hawks.
