ABILENE, TX – Behind a huge scoring night and a dominant effort on the glass, the McMurry War Hawks defeated Hendrix College, 69-59, Friday evening at Kimbrell Arena. The victory moves McMurry to 12-4 on the season as they continue to protect their home court.
The game was a back-and-forth battle for the first three periods, but McMurry took over when it mattered most. The War Hawks put on a shooting clinic in the final ten minutes, hitting a remarkable 11-of-16 (68.8%) from the field to break the game open. This offensive explosion was supported by a relentless defense that held the Warriors to just 30.9% shooting for the entire game.
McMurry's physical play was the difference-maker, as they out-rebounded Hendrix 47-38. The War Hawks used their size to own the paint, outscoring the Warriors 40-22 inside and capitalizing on 11 second-chance points. Even when Hendrix managed to keep it close at the free-throw line, McMurry's ability to score at the rim proved too much to handle.
Helana Chadwick led all scorers with a game-high 29 points. Chadwick was a threat from all levels, knocking down 10-of-19 shots from the floor and finishing a near-perfect 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. She also led the team with four assists and stayed active on the defensive end with three steals.
Aryana Cleveland was a force inside, finishing with 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting. Cleveland used her positioning to pull down eight rebounds and was perfect from the charity stripe, making all three of her attempts. She also added a block and a steal to her stat line.
Jordan Bravo rounded out the top performers, scoring 10 points and hitting two shots from beyond the arc. Bravo was a major factor in the rebounding battle, hauling in seven boards. She played all 40 minutes of the contest, adding a steal and providing steady leadership to help secure the win.
