War Hawks Suffer First Conference Setback in Tight Battle at TLU

SEGUIN, TX – The McMurry War Hawks fell just short in a 74-71 heartbreaker against Texas Lutheran on the road Saturday night. The narrow defeat was their first conference loss of the season, moving their record to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

Trailing by eight points after the first period, the War Hawks started a comeback in the second quarter. An 11-0 run allowed McMurry to erase the deficit and take the lead, outscoring the Bulldogs 27-16 heading into the locker room. The second half was a back-and-forth affair with six lead changes and four ties. McMurry pushed their advantage to 12 points early in the fourth quarter, but a late surge by Texas Lutheran shifted the momentum in the final minutes.

The War Hawks finished the evening 11-for-12 (91.7%) from the free-throw line. They also outscored the Bulldogs 19-12 in fast-break points. Despite a defensive effort that forced 14 turnovers, the War Hawks couldn't withstand a late Bulldog rally in the closing seconds.
