Leflore and Cherry Lead Scoring in Tough Night Against Concordia

AUSTIN, TX – The McMurry War Hawks faced a daunting conference road test on Friday, battling a potent Concordia University Texas squad to a 102–77 final score at the Christian Fieldhouse, dropping their season record to 5-9 (0-5 SCAC). Despite flashes of brilliance and a competitive opening frame that saw the War Hawks lead for over 10 minutes, the Tornados unleashed a massive second-half offensive explosion to pull away.

Concordia seized full control by outscoring McMurry 58–36 in the final 20 minutes. The turning point came early in the second half as the Tornados used a scoring burst to establish a double-digit lead. Their bench depth and dominance inside—51 bench points and 56 points in the paint—widened the gap further. Although the War Hawks initially connected on 36.8% from deep in the first half, they cooled off significantly after Concordia ramped up defensive pressure during this pivotal stretch.

One of the brightest spots for McMurry was their performance at the charity stripe. The War Hawks were aggressive in drawing contact and capitalized on their opportunities, finishing the night 27-for-37 (73%) from the free-throw line. This consistent scoring helped the team stay within striking distance through multiple lead changes before the Tornados' late-game surge.

Top War Hawk Performers

Amari Leflore: Provided a major spark from the perimeter, leading the team's long-range attack with five made three-pointers. He finished the night with 16 points and added five rebounds in 20 minutes of action.

Jalen Cherry: Put together a versatile performance, leading the War Hawks with a game-high 15 rebounds. He added 15 points to his double-double effort and recorded three assists in 32 minutes.

Jordan Malveaux: Was a relentless force in transition, adding 14 points off the bench. He drew fouls effectively, hitting 9-of-12 free throws, and led the team with four assists.

Jordan Kamga: Made his presence felt on both ends of the floor, scoring seven points and grabbing seven rebounds. He was also a defensive anchor, leading the team with three blocks.
