ABILENE, TX - The McMurry women's soccer team opened conference play with a decisive 6-1 victory over Centenary College on Friday at Wilford Moore Stadium. The War Hawks' offense was explosive, with six different players scoring throughout the match.
The War Hawks got on the board in the 25th minute when Alexis Lira converted a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. Before the half, Madison Black added the team's second goal in the 41st minute, assisted by Haylie Blakley, giving McMurry a 2-0 cushion.
The offense continued its momentum in the second half. Black netted her second goal of the match in the 55th minute, assisted by Hailey Donaldson. After a Centenary goal, Hailey Graham responded quickly with an unassisted goal for the War Hawks in the 69th minute. Cameryn Peter added a fifth goal in the 73rd minute, assisted by Ava Camp, and Charley Goff scored the final goal in the 80th minute, also assisted by Ava Camp.
McMurry dominated possession and outshot the Ladies 16-2, putting 12 shots on goal. Madison Black led the team with three shots on goal, followed by Laila Brown, Cate Tempelmeyer, Hailey Graham, Cameryn Peter, Alexis Lira, Charley Goff, and Halin Griffith, who each recorded a shot on goal.
The War Hawks' next match will be against the University of St. Thomas on Sunday, September 28, at 11:00 a.m. at ACU's Elmer Gray Stadium.
