War Hawks Dominate St. Thomas, Keep Tournament Hopes Alive

Round Rock, TX - McMurry faced off against the University of St. Thomas at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas, in an elimination game. 

McMurry's offense exploded in the top of the 1st inning, scoring five runs. Collin Bruning singled to score Koy Carpenter, Nolan Scherencel hit a sacrifice fly to score Riley Hood, and Blake Beach singled, driving in Bruning and Michael Smosna. Beach then stole second, and an error allowed Beckham Paul to score, making it 5-0.   

St. Thomas responded with two runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

McMurry added a run in the top of the 5th when Beckham Paul singled to score Collin Bruning, increasing their lead to 6-2.   

Riley Hood singled in the top of the 6th to score Koy Carpenter, making it 7-2.   

McMurry put the game away in the top of the 7th inning, scoring five more runs. Ty Nelson singled to score Xavier Escobar; Collin Bruning singled to score Scout Smith, who entered the game late for Hood. Michael Smosna followed with a single to score Bruning. Nolan Scherencel singled to score Smosna. Blake Beach walked with the bases loaded to score Paul to cap off the scoring, bringing the score to 12-2.   

Hunter Poe earned the win for McMurry, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking one. Jonathan Enriquez came on in the seventh, striking out one and walking one to close down the game as McMurry run-ruled the Celts in seven innings.

With the win, McMurry survived to land a rematch with Concordia, who lost to Trinity 7-6 in Saturday night's winner's bracket game. The War Hawks and Tornados game will start at noon at the Dell Diamond, with the winner taking on Trinity for the SCAC championship
