War Hawks Score Big in Doubleheader at Ozarks

Clarksville, AR - The McMurry War Hawks defeated the University of the Ozarks 9-0 in game one of their doubleheader.

In the top of the first inning, Angelina Kulbeth walked, and Mercedes Camacho singled. Jade Dickens sacrificed a bunt to advance Camacho and Kulbeth into scoring position. Reaghan Staehely then singled up the middle, scoring Kulbeth. Maya Mongelli followed with a 3-run home run to left center, giving McMurry an early 4-0 lead.  

In the top of the second inning, Samantha Gonzales and Kulbeth both singled. Camacho sacrificed a bunt, advancing the runners. Dickens singled to center field, driving in Kulbeth and Gonzales to extend McMurry's lead to 6-0.  

In the top of the third inning, with the bases loaded, Gonzales was hit by a pitch, forcing in Staehely. Kulbeth followed with a walk, scoring Barton who had also reached on a walk. Camacho hit an RBI sacrifice fly, making it 9-0 McMurry, where the score would stand through the next two innings.

Baylee Fulps pitched a complete game shutout for McMurry, allowing only three hits and striking out five.

In the second game, the War Hawks again let their bats do the talking, winning game two 17-8 to sweep the doubleheader.

In the top of the first inning, Angelina Kulbeth walked, and Mercedes Camacho singled. With two outs, Reaghan Staehely would walk to load the bases. Sophia Steele followed with a single to center field, driving in Camacho and Kulbeth to give McMurry an early 2-0 lead.  

In the top of the second inning, Aliyah Tanguma singled and would come around on a single by Jade Dickens. Two more runs would come across on a Reaghan Staehely single. Steele followed with a 3-run home run to right field. Tristyn Barton homered down the right field line, pushing the War Hawk lead to 9-0.  

In the bottom of the inning, Ozarks would cut into the McMurry lead, scoring four runs of their own, leaving the second inning down 9-4.

After a scoreless third inning, McMurry would pad their lead with eight more runs. Aliyah Tanguma reached on a walk, then moved up on a Marissa Cardenas single and scored on a wild pitch. Samantha Gonzales pinch running also scored on a wild pitch. Dickens would extend their lead with a 2-run single. Dickens and Brown would move into scoring position with stolen bases. Dickens and Brown would later score on back-to-back bases-loaded walks. Morgan Mehaffey and Sophia Steele would score on an error on the Ozarks catcher padding their lead, 17-4

The Eagles again tried to trim the War Hawks' lead but could only score four more runs. Neither team scored in the fifth, but McMurry's offense was too much, and the game ended on run rule, 17-8.  

The War Hawks continue their series against Ozarks tomorrow with a single game beginning at 11:00 a.m.
