KERRVILLE- The McMurry baseball team earned another series win in conference play as they swept Schreiner on the road. The series was all War Hawks as they won all 3 contests and outscored Schreiner by a score of 33-9.Â
McMurry improved to 11-2 overall & 7-2 in conference play as they continued their strong start to the season.Â
GAME 1- The War Hawks jumped out to an early 1 run lead in the first inning and would never look back after that. They added 4 more over the next 2 innings. A big 6th inning put the War Hawks up by a score of 12-1 as McMurry went on to win by that score in a run rule, playing only 8 innings in the contest.Â
STAT LEADERS: The winning pitcher for the War Hawks was Cooper Marshall. Collin Bruning had 4 hits & Nolan Scherencel had 3 RBI's.Â
GAME 2- The two teams would play all 9 in this one, but the game was never particularly close as the War Hawks controlled the contest from the outset. McMurry scored a pair of runs in each of the first four innings of play to put the game out of reach. McMurry scored 10 runs on 14 hits as they went on to win this one by a score of 10-1.Â
STAT LEADERS: David Perez earned the win in the pitchers column. Michael Smosna had 3 hits with 4 RBI's & Riley Hood had 3 hits as well.Â
GAME 3- This was the closest game of the series between the two teams. McMurry would again jump out to an early lead with a 2-spot in the opening frame, but Schreiner was able to hold before they answered with a couple runs of their own in the 3rd inning - tying the game up at 2-2. A big 4-run 6th inning would be the difference maker in this one and would propel the War Hawks to victory as they went on to win this one by a score of 11-7. Schreiner outhit McMurry in the contest, but were unable to get runs across when they needed it the most as the War Hawks won the finale to complete the sweep.Â
STAT LEADERS: Hunter Poe was credited with the victory, putting him at 3-0 on the year.  It was a walk party at the plate for the War Hawks as the team totaled 14 walks in the contest.Â
McMurry will be back in action this weekend for a huge 3-game series against Trinity as they hit the road for a showdown between two of the top teams in the conference.Â
