ABILENE- The McMurry softball team met up with University of Dallas at home for a three game conference series over the weekend in Abilene.
The War Hawks were able to get a much needed sweep as they picked up 3 huge conference wins in the process. The sweep puts the War Hawks in 7th place in the standings but are now just a half a game back of Centenary who is right in front of them. The War Hawks improved to 7-10 in conference play.
In game 1, Dallas jumped out to an early lead as they were the first ones to score when they got a run across in the first inning of play. McMurry would answer with 2 of their own and would never end up giving up that lead. McMurry scored another one in the third & one more in the fourth, while Dallas was never able to score any more after their first run. The War Hawks would go on to win the first game of the series, 4-1.
Once again, Dallas would take an early lead in game 2 of the series. They scored one in the first & one in the second to take an early 2-0 lead. McMurry tied the game in the fourth inning with 2 of their own. Dallas reclaimed the lead in the 5th, but McMurry was able to ride a huge 6th inning where they scored 5 runs to take control of the game. The War Hawks were able to hold Dallas off in the final 2 innings as they went on to win the contest by a score of 7-4.
McMurry was able to flex their defensive abilities in the third and final game of the series as they were able to complete a shutout over Dallas. Thalia Reyes earned the win in the circle. Dallas would only get 4 hits in this contest and never were able to break through on the scoreboard. McMurry was able to keep their offense going as they scored 8 runs on 9 hits with no errors. The War Hawks were able to put together a solid game to complete the series sweep over Dallas with an 8-0 win. The War Hawks controlled the series from the start, as they outscored Dallas over the weekend 19-5.
McMurry will be back in action Wednesday as they travel to Belton to take on UMHB in an afternoon double-header with the Crusaders. Game one will begin at 2:00pm.
