McMurry falls to Concordia in conference matchup

AUSTIN- The McMurry men's basketball team came up short against Concordia in their conference clash in Austin on Monday evening. 

The Tornados used a big second half to defeat the War Hawks by a score of 92-74. McMurry dropped to 4-14 overall & 2-7 in conference play, while Concordia improved to 8-10 overall & 5-4 in conference play. 

McMurry came into this game looking to pick up some momentum as they enter the home stretch of their schedule. They came out playing well in the first half as the game was close throughout the opening frame. Concordia was able to take a lead into the locker room but McMurry was well within striking distance at 43-39 when the first half buzzer went off. 

In the second half, McMurry was unable to close the gap to get over the hump. Every time the War Hawks seemed to gain momentum, Concordia was able to get a big basket. It was a hard fought second half, but the Tornados were able to keep the War Hawks at a distance for the remainder of the game. 

Concordia would go on to win the contest by a score of 92-74. The Tornadoes made their biggest impact in the paint & was the beneficiary of huge bench contributions. They outscored McMurry in the paint 46-34 and their bench outscored McMurry's 52-20. 

McMurry was led by Kino Thompson with 19 points, followed by Jalen Cherry with 14 points, while Concordia was led by Joey Ramirez with 19 points. 

The War Hawks are back in action on Friday as they hit the road to take on Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas at 7:30pm.
