ABILENE- The McMurry women's basketball team was able to get a big conference win at home against Concordia last night at Kimbrell Arena.
The War Hawks were able to avenge their loss to the Tornados from earlier in the conference season. McMurry improves to 19-4 overall & 12-2 in conference play, while Concordia dropped to 12-11 overall & 7-7 in conference play.
Concordia jumped out to an early lead as they looked to take control of the game in the first half. They were able to take a 20-18 lead at the end of one quarter of play.
The two teams alternated quarters, as McMurry outscored Concordia in the 2nd quarter, Concordia led the 3rd quarter, & McMurry won the 4th quarter.
A 23-14 second quarter for the War Hawks was big as it gave them a 7 point lead at the break as they looked to take control of the contest. The lead would prove to be big enough down the stretch to hold off a second half rally from the Tornados as the War Hawks would go on to win by a score of 74-67.
McMurry was led by Helana Chadwick with 18 points, followed by Kylie Flippin with 16 points while Concordia was led by Destiny Matthews with 20 points.
The War Hawks are back in action on Friday at 5:30 at Kimbrell Arena in another big game as they take on TLU.
