ABILENE- McMurry men's basketball was able to get a big win over Concordia in a conference matchup Tuesday night at Kimbrell Arena.
McMurry set out on a mission to bounce back after a tough weekend at home, and were able to come away victorious. The War Hawks improved to 7-16 overall & 5-9 in conference play, while Concordia fell to 11-12 overall & 8-6 in conference play.
McMurry would use a big first half to propel themselves to victory in this one. The War Hawks came out shooting the ball well as they shot 55% from the field in the first half on their way to scoring 50 points in the opening period. McMurry led by 13 at the break as they looked to put Concordia away in the second half.
The Tornados fought back in the second half as they tried to close the gap. Concordia got to the free throw line 18 times in the second half as they tried to make up ground while saving time on the clock. McMurry was able to hold them off as they closed the game out strong and went on to win the game by a score of 96-89.
McMurry was led by Gervai Maeweathers with 16 points, followed by a duo of Matt Pena & Jalen Cherry, both with 15 points. Concordia was led by the games leading scorer, Joey Ramirez with 33 points.
The War Hawks are back in action on Friday against TLU at Kimbrell Arena at 7:30PM in another conference matchup.
