ABILENE- McMurry baseball hosted Concordia in a double-header on Saturday to complete the two teams 3 game series over the weekend in Abilene.
After dropping the first game on Friday to the Tornados, the War Hawks responded in a big way as they swept the double-header on Saturday to get 2 big wins.
McMurry improved to 5-1 overall on the season and were able to start off conference play with a series win as they move to 2-1 in the early stages of SCAC play.
Game 1 – This game was close in the early going, as McMurry took a 2-0 lead in the 2
nd inning before Concordia responded with 4 runs in the top of the third to take the lead. McMurry would get 8 runs over the next 2 innings on their way to taking over the game. They plated across 7 more to bring the final score to 17-4 in just 7 innings. McMurry benefited from a 4 RBI game at the plate from
Xavier Escobar.
Game 2 – We had early fireworks offensively in the second game of the double-header as we had 7 combined runs in the first inning alone. McMurry took a 7-4 lead into the 3
rd inning and would never look back as they went on to win by a score of 12-6.
Beckham Paul led the way for the War Hawks at the plate with 3 RBI.
Bryson Morrill got the win in game 1 with 3.1 innings pitched and only giving up 1 hit while recording 3 strikeouts.
Hunter Poe got the win in game 2 with 5.0 innings pitched and only giving up 2 hits while recording 6 strikeouts.
The War Hawks are back in action on Tuesday at 3:00 against Howard Payne in Brownwood.
