GEORGETOWN- The McMurry women's basketball team picked up another conference win in a road matchup against Southwestern on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, The War Hawks improved to 14-3 overall & 7-1 in conference play, while Southwestern dropped to 6-14 overall & 3-7 in conference play.
McMurry was able to once again use a big start to gain momentum early on & build up a lead that was able to withstand the length of the contest. The War Hawks led by a score of 16-8 after the first quarter as they looked to extend on their lead in the second quarter.
The second quarter saw more of back and forth action, as the Pirates were able to score 14, while McMurry matched their 16 points that they had in the first quarter as well. The War Hawks led at the break by a score of 32-22.
The whole second half of the contest continued to see close back and forth action, as both teams traded baskets. McMurry tried to pull away in the second half but Southwestern was able to keep the game within striking distance for the remainder of the game. McMurry's ability to ice games away proved to be too much for the Pirates as the War Hawks went on to win by a score of 70-59.
McMurry was led by Kylie Flippin with 29 points, followed by Aryana Cleveland with 13 points, while Southwestern was led by Ellie Ward with 16 points.
The War Hawks are back in action on Monday in Austin against Concordia at 5:30PM.
