War Hawks Go Down Fighting in SCAC Home Opener

ABILENE, TX – The McMurry War Hawks men's basketball team faced a tough challenge in their home SCAC opener against Schreiner University, ultimately falling 93-84. In a high-scoring affair in which both teams shot above 47% from the field, the War Hawks were unable to overcome an early deficit driven by the Mountaineers' highly efficient shooting bringing their record to 3-4 overall (0-2 SCAC) on the young season.

The contest was an up-tempo battle from the start, with Schreiner shooting an impressive 57.6% from the field for the game. However, the War Hawks countered with strong offensive production of their own, hitting 40% from the three-point line and completely dominating the glass. McMurry won the rebounding battle by a margin of 35-27, a relentless effort that led directly to 23 second-chance points.

Despite success on the boards, a high number of turnovers hindered the War Hawks' ability to close the gap against the sharp-shooting Mountaineers, allowing Schreiner to maintain the lead for most of the game and build a game-high 14-point deficit in the second half. McMurry closed the game by keeping pace with Schreiner in the second half (42-42), demonstrating the team's competitive spirit despite the official result.
