ODESSA, TX – The McMurry War Hawks men's basketball team traveled to the UTPB Gym Complex for a non-conference exhibition contest against UT Permian Basin, falling 104-76. While the Falcons maintained the lead throughout the contest, the War Hawks put together a competitive offensive performance, highlighted by a strong second half and exceptional contributions from the bench.
UT Permian Basin established control early by capitalizing on highly efficient three-point shooting and building a significant lead in the first set. Despite the Falcons shooting 58.6% from the field in the opening period, the War Hawks maintained offensive momentum, shooting 46.9% in the first set.
McMurry's resilience was most evident in the second set, where the team continued to battle despite a deficit that reached 28 points. The War Hawks found their rhythm from long range, hitting 5-of-15 three-pointers in the second half. This offensive efficiency, paired with an aggressive defensive mindset that forced turnovers, allowed McMurry to go on a 10-0 scoring run late in the game, showcasing the team's potential to erase large deficits.
The McMurry bench played a pivotal role throughout the entire contest, accounting for 40 total points, emphasizing the depth of the roster. The team shot 61% on two-point field goals for the game, proving their ability to penetrate and score in the paint. This challenging exhibition provides invaluable experience as the team moves forward.

- Jalen Cherry: Provided a strong, efficient outing, scoring 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, along with six rebounds and an assist.
- JaRayl Peoples: Finished the exhibition with 13 points, three rebounds, and an assist. He was effective from the free-throw line, hitting 3-of-7 attempts.
- Zack Rygg: Contributed eight points and three rebounds, hitting 2-of-4 from three-point range to help fuel the team's efforts.
