War Hawks Show Resilience and Finish Strong in Exhibition

KINGSVILLE, TX – The McMurry War Hawks women's basketball team faced a stiff test on Saturday afternoon in a pre-season exhibition contest against Texas A&M-Kingsville, ultimately falling 76-62. Despite trailing by 16 points early in the second half, the War Hawks demonstrated exceptional resilience, showing a tenacious commitment to defense and an explosive fourth-quarter offense that will serve the team well in the upcoming regular season.

The contest began with McMurry struggling to find its shooting touch, falling behind early as the Javelinas took control. However, the War Hawks steadily improved their consistency throughout the afternoon, especially in the later sets. The team successfully attacked the rim and converted at an outstanding rate from the free-throw line, shooting 80% (12-of-15) for the game, including 8-of-10 in the final period alone.

McMurry's aggressive play style led to 14 total steals and 18 fast-break points, showcasing their commitment to transition offense. This effort culminated in a high-scoring final frame where the War Hawks poured in 25 points, matching the Javelinas' intensity and closing the deficit to a respectable 14-point margin by the final whistle. This strong finish bodes well as the team prepares for the official start of the regular season.
