HOUSTON, TX - The McMurry War Hawks wrapped up their run at the SCAC Cross Over Tournament in Houston with a straight-set loss to the Austin College Roos, falling with scores of 22-25, 20-25, and 21-25. The conference defeat moves the War Hawks' overall record to 9-6, and 2−4 in SCAC play.
The War Hawk offense struggled to find consistent efficiency against the tough Austin College defense, hitting just .099 for the match. Outside hitter Frank Annikah led the team's attack, putting down eight kills while hitting .235. Rylie Patterson was highly effective on limited attempts, contributing eight kills on a solid .263 hitting percentage. Layleah Williams-Gibson added six kills, converting her attacks at an impressive .455 clip.
The attack was distributed primarily by Carli Colbert, who finished with 13 assists, supported by Alexis Dolton's 11 assists.
From the service line, McMurry collected five total aces. Jalie Miller delivered a team-high four aces, with Williams-Gibson adding the fifth. Defensively, Colbert anchored the back row, leading the team with seven digs. Miller and Patterson also helped stabilize the defense, recording five digs and four digs, respectively. At the net, the War Hawks tallied 4.0 blocks. Patterson, Williams-Gibson, and Colbert all contributed two block assists apiece.
The War Hawks were competitive throughout the match, dropping the first set 22-25 despite rallying back from a large deficit, then losing the second 20-25 and the third 21-25. While they fought hard, McMurry was unable to overcome Austin College's efficient hitting.
McMurry will return to Houston on Thursday, October 9th, for their match against the University of St. Thomas at the Jerabeck Activity and Activities Center at 6:00 p.m.
